Beschrijving voorzijde Central device depicts a highly detailed, finely engraved view of the Temple of Heaven (Tiantan) in Beijing, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The circular hall with its characteristic triple-tiered conical roof and surrounding marble terrace is shown in three-quarter perspective, with the ornate balustrade and ceremonial stairway prominently featured. The Chinese legend 中华人民共和国 (People's Republic of China) arcs along the upper portion of the coin within a raised border. The date 2004 appears in the lower field in bold numerals.

Beschrijving keerzijde Central device portrays an adult giant panda and her cub in an intimate, naturalistic composition rendered in exceptionally high sculptural relief against a deeply mirrored field. The adult panda faces right with head lowered toward the cub, which gazes upward in a touching interaction; a spray of bamboo stalks and leaves occupies the left field, adding depth and texture to the scene. The inscription '1Kg Au .999' curves along the upper field, denoting the coin's weight and fineness. The face value '10000元' is inscribed in the lower right field in bold Latin numerals and Chinese character.

Aanvullende informatie

The 2004 kilogram Panda is among the largest gold coins issued under the annual Panda program, which the People's Bank of China launched in 1982 partly to generate hard currency through bullion exports during a period when China was aggressively expanding its presence in international precious metals markets. The face value is purely nominal — no kilogram gold coin has ever been spent as currency.

Each year's Panda issue carries a new design, a policy established deliberately to drive collector demand and secondary market activity. The 2004 issue is KM#1538, distinct from the fractional issues of the same year that share the Panda program but carry separate catalog numbers.
