Issued to mark the 150th anniversary of Japan Post, founded in 1871 when the Meiji government established a Western-style postal network modeled partly on British postal reforms — one of the earliest infrastructure decisions of the new regime. The Japan Post system has since undergone one of the more complicated privatization histories in modern finance, partially listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2015 after decades of political deadlock over its reform.
