| Reversbeschreibung | A dynamic volleyball scene dominates the field, depicting three female athletes in action: two players on the left side of the net execute a block with arms raised, while a third player on the right leaps to spike the ball overhead. A volleyball is shown airborne above the net in the upper field. To the lower right, the Seoul 1988 Olympic emblem — comprising the Samtaegeuk symbol above the Olympic rings — appears in the field. The curved legend 'XXIV OLYMPIAD SEOUL 1988' arcs around the upper periphery, and the denomination '10000 WON' is inscribed along the lower rim. |

Issued to commemorate the 1988 Seoul Olympics — the first Games hosted by South Korea — this coin was part of a sprawling multi-piece program that the Bank of Korea released across several years leading up to the event. Seoul's selection in 1981 had been a political flashpoint, with the IOC vote occurring against the backdrop of the Cold War and significant lobbying against awarding the Games to a country still technically at war with its northern neighbor.
The volleyball issue corresponds to KM#63 within that broader Olympic series, one of dozens of denominations and subjects released under the program.
