The national arms of the Republic of Korea — comprising the taeguk symbol within a floral roundel, encircled by a stylised ribbon — are depicted in the upper field. Below the arms, a spray of hibiscus syriacus (mugunghwa), the national flower of Korea, is rendered in high relief with detailed petals and foliage filling the lower portion of the field. Hangul legends surround the design, reading the denomination and year of issue, with the date 1988 inscribed at the bottom in Arabic numerals. |

Issued for the 1988 Seoul Olympics, these Games marked South Korea's emergence onto the world stage after decades of authoritarian rule and economic reconstruction following the Korean War. The IOC had awarded Seoul the games in 1981, a decision that shocked many who expected a more established host city — and which carried undeniable political weight during the Cold War, though the Soviet-led boycott of 1984 Los Angeles was not reciprocated here in any meaningful bloc.
KM#75 is one of several silver issues in the Seoul Olympic series, each denomination tied to a specific sport.
