| Additional information |
Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule on August 15, 1945, this coin appeared during a period of intense national reflection — 1995 saw extensive government-led commemorations, public debate over Japanese wartime conduct, and renewed diplomatic friction over unresolved reparations claims. The Bank of Korea produced a limited commemorative series for the occasion rather than a single piece, of which KM#86 is one component.
