| Obverse description | Central design features the national coat of arms of Vanuatu, depicting a traditionally attired warrior standing upon a boar's tusk and fern fronds, holding a spear upright in his right hand, within a circular design element. A banner below bears the motto LONG GOD YUMI STANAP in the field. The date 30th JULY and 1981 appear to either side of the central device. The circumferential legend TO COMMEMORATE THE 1st.
