| Obverse description | The obverse centres on a hand-engraved intaglio portrait of the Slovenian writer Ivan Cankar in right-facing profile, his silhouette filled with facsimile reproductions of his handwriting; to the left of the portrait a vertical gold overprint reads '2004', the final digit progressively transforming through five stages into a five-pointed star — a special security feature marking Slovenia's accession to the European Union. The central field carries a vignette of the stage plan of the former Ljubljana Theatre surmounted by an embossed chrysanthemum motif, while the watermark reproduces Hinko Smrekar's caricature of Cankar. |
