The 10,000 tolar was the highest denomination in Slovenian circulation before the country adopted the euro on 1 January 2007, at which point all tolar notes were withdrawn. This particular 2003-dated issue was the final substantive print run of the series, and the note's practical lifespan was consequently short — barely four years from printing to demonetization.
Giesecke & Devrient had handled Slovenian banknote production throughout the tolar period, a relationship that began when Slovenia first issued its own currency following independence from Yugoslavia in 1991.
