The obverse is dominated by a tall ornamental column — the Monument of Independence in Astana — rising centrally against a pale blue guilloche underprint, flanked by three doves in flight rendered in intaglio, one of which bears warm brown plumage in the foreground. The denomination '10000' appears in large numerals at lower left, while the inscription 'ОН МЫН ТЕНГЕ' is printed in bold blue lettering at center-left. At upper left, the bank title 'ҚАЗАҚСТАН ҰЛТТЫҚ БАНКІ' is set above a small Kazakh flag vignette, with a latent image security device and ornamental Kazakh geometric patterns forming part of the underprint. |

The reverse presents a central vignette of the Ak Orda Presidential Palace in Astana, rendered in fine intaglio detail with its characteristic neoclassical facade and central dome. At left, a commemorative logo marks the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence ('ҚАЗАҚСТАН ТӘУЕЛСІЗДІГІНЕ ЖЫРМА ЖЫЛ'), accompanied by an allegorical female figure. An oval holographic security patch with Kazakh geometric ornamentation is placed at center-left, and the denomination '10000' appears at lower left in large numerals above a broad band of traditional Kazakh ornamental guilloche. The inscription 'ДЕСЯТЬ ТЫСЯЧ ТЕНГЕ' runs along the lower margin. |

Kazakhstan's highest-denomination note at the time of its introduction, the 10,000 Tenge was printed by Goznak in Moscow — a practical inheritance from Soviet-era infrastructure that Kazakhstan, like several post-Soviet states, continued to rely on well into the 2000s for high-security currency production. The arrangement was never especially advertised.
The holographic stripe on this series was a significant upgrade over earlier Tenge issues and reflects the National Bank's ongoing response to sophisticated counterfeiting pressure that had plagued lower denominations through the mid-2000s. Pick #40 superseded the earlier 2006 issue in security specification without a full redesign.
