| 裏面の説明 | The reverse features an elaborately detailed cartouche presenting a stylised cartographic composition of the north-western Russian territories. At lower left, a compass rose indicating the cardinal directions is accompanied by a depiction of Vyborg Fortress with a period sailing vessel, identified by a scroll inscription 'ВЫБОРГ' (Vyborg); below this, the Kronstadt Fortress, a sailing ship, and coastal fortifications appear with a ribbon inscription 'КРОНШТАДТ' (Kronstadt). At upper right, factory buildings symbolising early industry are labelled by scroll 'ПЕТРОЗАВОДСК' (Petrozavodsk), while the Shlisselburg Fortress appears below with its own scroll inscription 'ШЛИССЕЛЬБУРГ' (Shlisselburg). At the lower centre, the Peter and Paul Fortress is prominently depicted, with the ribbon inscription 'САНКТ-ПЕТЕРБУРГ' (Saint Petersburg) beneath it, serving as the compositional anchor of the map. |

This piece belongs to Russia's ambitious "Russia in the World Map" series, issued to mark the 1,100th anniversary of Russian statehood — a date the Russian government pinned to the legendary summoning of the Varangian prince Rurik to Novgorod in 862 AD. At just over one kilogram of fine gold, the series required the Moscow Mint to develop specialized casting and finishing techniques it had not previously employed at this scale for a legal tender coin.
Mintage was limited to 100 pieces worldwide.
