| Opmerkingen |
The First Republic of Armenia issued this note through its Erivan branch of the State Bank in 1919 under extraordinary pressure — the republic was simultaneously fighting border wars with Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Ottoman irregular forces while managing a refugee crisis of catastrophic proportions following the Armenian Genocide. Currency production was improvised accordingly. The Erivan printing operation lacked the infrastructure of established national mints, and the high denomination reflects runaway inflation rather than economic strength.
The S-prefix in the Pick reference denotes its classification among provisional and state issues, distinct from Soviet-era Armenian notes that would follow after November 1920, when the Red Army entered Yerevan and the republic ceased to exist.
