The Bukhara Soviet People's Republic was a short-lived transitional state established in 1920 after the Red Army overthrew the Emirate of Bukhara — one of the last surviving Persianate dynastic states in Central Asia. It maintained nominal independence for just three years before being absorbed into the Soviet Union in 1924. During that window it issued its own currency, a practical necessity in a region where Russian imperial scrip, Tsarist holdovers, and locally-printed notes all circulated simultaneously in an economy severely disrupted by civil war and the collapse of trade routes.
The 1922 issues are the final emissions of this authority. By the time these notes were printed, Bukhara's monetary autonomy was already ending on paper as well as in fact.
