Brazil's gold coinage of the 1830s was struck under genuinely unstable conditions. Pedro II was crowned emperor in 1841, meaning this entire issue was produced during his minority — Brazil was governed by a regency, a period marked by provincial revolts including the Cabanagem, the Balaiada, and the Farroupilha. Coinage continued, but the regency's authority was contested enough that monetary policy was an afterthought to containing separatist violence.
The KM#451 type is known with multiple date variants across the seven-year run, and attribution between mints requires careful attention to mint mark placement.
