Banco Nacional Ultramarino's 10,000 Reis notes for Portuguese colonial circulation were printed by Bradbury Wilkinson well before they were actually put to use — the 1909 date refers to the printing, but overprint stamps and control seals were applied later as the notes were released in batches, sometimes years after production. The "CCA" seal designation distinguishes one such release variant from otherwise identical printings.
Bradbury Wilkinson's intaglio work for colonial Portuguese issues of this period is consistently fine, though the paper tends to show fatigue along fold lines — a known weakness in the stock used for this series.
