正面描述 Central vignette of the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama (c. 1460–1524), the first European to reach India by sea, accompanied by a vignette of sailing ships. The design is executed in fine intaglio work with ornate guilloche borders typical of Bradbury Wilkinson production.

备注

Banco Nacional Ultramarino, chartered in Lisbon in 1864 with a colonial mandate, used Bradbury Wilkinson extensively for its overseas currency production during this period. This 10,000 Réis note was printed at the firm's New Malden works in Surrey — not in London proper, though "London" appears as the conventional trade address. The denomination sits at the top of the BNU's Portuguese colonial réis issues, placing it firmly in the hands of merchants and administrators rather than ordinary circulation.

1909 was late in the réis era. Portugal decimalized with the escudo in 1911, making this one of the final printings at this face value before the whole monetary framework was replaced following the republican revolution.
