Guinea-Bissau's early 1990s silver issues were produced almost entirely for the international collector market — the country had neither the minting infrastructure nor the domestic demand to justify precious-metal coinage for circulation. This piece belongs to a series of dinosaur-themed commemoratives that Banco Nacional da Guiné-Bissau licensed through external minting houses, a common revenue strategy for cash-strapped post-independence states.
Vulcanodon itself was described from a single partial skeleton recovered in Zimbabwe in 1969, making it one of the earliest known sauropods — though its taxonomic standing has been revised repeatedly since.
