The 10,000 Peso denomination was introduced under the military junta that took power in March 1976, part of Economy Minister José Alfredo Martínez de Hoz's attempt to stabilize an economy hemorrhaging under hyperinflation. It didn't work. By the time this series closed in 1983, a 10,000 Peso note had lost virtually all purchasing power — the denomination that had seemed extraordinary at issue was effectively worthless before the series even ended.
In 1983, the entire Peso series was superseded by the Peso Argentino at 10,000-to-1, collapsing this note's face value to a single new Peso on conversion.
