Obverse description The central field features the interlaced royal cypher of Juan Carlos I — the letters J and C surmounted by a royal crown — rendered in relief within a beaded inner circle. To the left of the monogram appears the Madrid mint mark (M) topped by a small crown, and to the right a floral ornament. The circular legend reads JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPANA, separated by dot stops, running along the outer border. The date 1992 is inscribed at the base, flanked by rosette ornaments, completing the design in the style of historical Spanish coinage.

Reverse description The central field depicts a mint worker operating a historical screw press, shown in a dynamic striding pose as he pulls the long horizontal arm of the press to strike a coin blank, with the substantial body of the screw press rendered in careful detail to the left. The scene is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the Madrid mint mark and a crowned heraldic ornament flanking the composition at mid-height. The upper legend QUINTO CENTENARIO, separated by dot stops, commemorates the fifth centenary of Columbus's voyage to the Americas. The denomination 100000 PTAS is inscribed along the lower border within the beaded circle.
