| Reverse description | The reverse is printed in dark olive-green on a plain cream ground and organised symmetrically around a central vignette of the Imperial German eagle above the large numeral denomination. Two elaborate geometric guilloche rosettes, each framed by a cruciform ornamental surround, are positioned left and right of centre. A vertical numeral strip reading 10000 runs along the right margin, and a cautionary anti-counterfeiting legend in Gothic script appears in a curved banner across the lower centre. |

The small-format 10,000 Mark note of 1922 arrived as German inflation was accelerating past the point of no return. The Reichsbank had already been printing at scale since the early postwar years, but 1922 marked the moment when five- and six-figure denominations stopped feeling extraordinary. This note, once a significant sum, was rendered nearly worthless within months of issue as the hyperinflationary spiral tightened through 1923.
At just over twelve million printed, the run was modest by the standards of what followed — later emergency issues reached into the billions of notes.
