| Obverse description | Issued on woven linen fabric with a decorative sewn lace border on all four sides, this textile Notgeld bears the issuer's name 'Stadtsparkasse Bielefeld' in large Gothic blackletter at the top, above the bold denomination '10000 MARK' in letterpress. The central vignette presents a woodcut-style satirical composition set against an industrial Ruhr landscape with factory chimneys, populated by allegorical figures of German workers alongside caricatures of French occupiers bearing political commentary referencing the 1923 Ruhr occupation, flanked by vertical panels of patriotic and polemical German text. The lower margin carries the payment clause, redemption notice referencing savings offices in Bielefeld and Kreis Halle i. Westf., and the printer's imprint of E. Gundlach A.G., dated 15 February 1923. |

Bielefeld's fabric-based emergency currency is among the most discussed Notgeld of the hyperinflation period, and for good reason. The Stadtsparkasse issued notes printed directly onto linen and silk because paper was either unavailable at scale or considered too fragile for daily transactional abuse during a period when a note's purchasing power could collapse within hours of issue. E. Gundlach, a local textile and printing firm, handled production — a logistical convenience that also made the notes genuinely difficult to counterfeit with standard equipment.
The 10,000 Mark denomination places this squarely in the mid-1923 spiral, before the zeros became truly absurd later that autumn.
