Turkey's participation in the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics was largely symbolic — the country sent a skeleton squad with no realistic medal prospects — but the commemorative program it generated was aimed squarely at the export collector market rather than domestic circulation. These silver issues were struck for foreign numismatic buyers and saw virtually no use as currency.
