Georgia's coupon currency — the kuponi — was a transitional instrument introduced after independence, never intended as a permanent solution. The series suffered chronic inflation almost immediately; by the time high-denomination notes like this one entered circulation, the kuponi was already losing value faster than new notes could be printed. It was replaced by the lari in 1995.
