Georgia's coupon currency — the kuponi — was a transitional instrument introduced after independence, never intended as a permanent solution. The series suffered chronic inflation almost immediately; by the time high-denomination notes like this one entered circulation, the kuponi was already losing value faster than new notes could be printed. It was replaced by the lari in 1995.
The "digit '1' in denominator" designation distinguishes a specific typographical variant within the 10,000 kuponi type — a detail that matters to variety collectors but is easy to overlook without direct comparison.
