Reverse description A finely detailed seated dog, rendered in high relief, occupies the left-center of the field, facing left with its tail curled to the right — emblematic of the Chinese zodiac Year of the Dog. To the right, four Chinese characters '卓越出眾' are arranged vertically, translating as 'eminence' or 'outstanding excellence.' The word 'EMINENCE' is inscribed in Latin letters along the upper border. The denomination '10,000 Kip' appears at the bottom of the field, and the inscription '1/25 OZ 999.9 FINE GOLD' curves along the right inner border, all set against a deeply mirrored proof background.

Additional information

Laos issued this small gold piece as part of a long-running lunar new year series produced primarily for export and collector markets rather than domestic circulation. The 2006 Year of the Dog corresponds to the Lao calendar year 2549–2550, and the issue was almost certainly struck under contract at a foreign mint — the Bank of the Lao P.D.R. has historically lacked domestic facilities capable of producing fine gold coinage at this specification.
