| Additional information |
Paraguay's Alfredo Stroessner held power longer than any other ruler in the country's history — 35 years, from 1954 until his ouster in February 1989. This coin marks his eighth consecutive presidential term, a succession maintained through elections in which he ran either unopposed or against candidates barred from meaningful campaigning. The "term" itself was a constitutional formality dressed over what was, in practice, an uninterrupted military dictatorship backed by the Colorado Party.
Issued just months before General Andrés Rodríguez — Stroessner's own son-in-law — led the coup that ended his rule, making this one of the last commemorative issues of the regime.
