| Obverse description | The obverse presents a central vertical band in polished relief set against a textured antiqued field, bearing the facsimile signature of Vincent van Gogh in cursive script above the dates '1853–1890'. Below the signature appears the Coat of Arms of Chad featuring a lion and goat supporters. The lower portion of the band carries the legend 'REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD' flanking the country name in larger lettering, with the date '2023' and denomination '10000 FRANCS CFA' inscribed beneath. The surrounding field is shaped as a bust silhouette with a richly textured, brushstroke-style surface evoking Van Gogh's distinctive painterly technique. |

| Additional information |
Chad has issued a long-running series of silver coins featuring Western cultural figures under the CFA franc authority — an arrangement that has drawn persistent criticism, given that the BEAC-zone countries retain limited independent control over commemorative coinage programs effectively farmed out to European minting houses. These pieces are produced for the collector market and see no circulation whatsoever in N'Djamena or anywhere else.
Van Gogh died in July 1890, two days after shooting himself in a wheat field near Auvers-sur-Oise. At the time of his death, he had sold exactly one painting.
