The "Wheat Field with Cypresses" was painted in June 1889 while Van Gogh was a voluntary patient at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. He completed at least three versions; the primary canvas now hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. BEAC has issued a long-running series of oversized silver-plated art reproduction coins — the CFA franc issuing authority is a convenient licensing vehicle, as the issuing states have no meaningful connection to the subject matter.
