The Red Vineyard holds a specific place in Van Gogh's biography: it is widely cited as the only painting he sold during his lifetime, purchased by Anna Boch in Brussels in 1890 for 400 francs — roughly a month before his death. The BEAC has issued a string of oversized art-themed pieces in recent years, this being among the more substantial, running nearly a kilogram largely on the strength of its zinc core beneath a thin silver skin.
