The Bank of Central African States issues commemorative pieces under a licensing arrangement that has nothing to do with the monetary needs of its member states — Cameroon, CAR, Chad, Congo, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea — and everything to do with the global novelty coin market. Van Gogh's Sunflowers series, painted in Arles in 1888 in preparation for Gauguin's visit, has become one of the most commercially recycled images in the collector coin industry.
