Obverse description The obverse presents a high-relief antiqued rendition of Vincent van Gogh's celebrated painting 'The Bedroom in Arles,' executed across the entire square field in meticulous sculptural detail. The interior scene depicts a wooden bed with headboard and footboard at right, a ladder-back chair at lower left, a small side table at center bearing a vase of vibrantly colored sunflowers — the sole polychrome element amid the otherwise monochrome antiqued field — and a large window with curtains at left admitting diffused light. Multiple framed pictures are visible on the right wall, faithfully reproducing the composition of van Gogh's original painting. Within the upper central area, a framed cartouche contains the Chad coat of arms flanked by the legend REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD, the date 2024, and the denomination 10000 FRANCS CFA in relief lettering.

Additional information

The Bank of Central African States issues commemorative pieces under a licensing arrangement that has nothing to do with the monetary needs of its member states — Cameroon, CAR, Chad, Congo, Gabon, and Equatorial Guinea — and everything to do with the global novelty coin market. Van Gogh's Sunflowers series, painted in Arles in 1888 in preparation for Gauguin's visit, has become one of the most commercially recycled images in the collector coin industry. The zinc core here is doing the structural work; the silver plating is measured in microns.
