This piece belongs squarely to that tradition.
The Gachet portrait is one of the most commercially exploited images in numismatic commemorative history, reproduced across dozens of issuing authorities. One of Van Gogh's two versions sold at Christie's New York in May 1990 for $82.5 million — then a world record for any artwork at auction.
