Additional information

Benin has no meaningful connection to the Titanic — the ship was British-registered, sank in the North Atlantic, and the wreck site is jointly managed under a U.S.-U.K. agreement. This coin is a novelty issue produced for the collector market, a category Benin's nominal issuing authority has leaned on heavily since the 1990s to generate seigniorage revenue with no expectation of domestic circulation. The "World Heritage" framing is loose at best; UNESCO has not designated the Titanic wreck site under the World Heritage Convention.
