| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Benin occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield supported by two leopards rampant, the upper quarters bearing a castle and a star of Benin respectively, and the lower quarters a palm tree and a sailing ship. A scrolled ribbon below the shield bears the national motto FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL.
