The field is densely populated with marine life — fish, a sea turtle ensnared in fishing net, coral formations, an octopus, sea anemones, and starfish — rendered with exceptional three-dimensional depth. Superimposed in the upper-left quadrant is a raised circular cartouche bearing the coat of arms of the Republic of Benin flanked by two leopards, encircled by the legend REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN and the motto FRATERNITE JUSTICE TRAVAIL on a scroll below the shield; the date 2021 appears above the arms within the cartouche. The denomination 10000 FRANCS CFA is inscribed in the field below the cartouche. The upper portion of the scene depicts human refuse — plastic bottles, cans, and other debris — littering the reef environment, underscoring the environmental crisis theme. |
