| Reverse description | The reverse presents an elaborate high-relief sculptural composition in the form of a traditional Chinese dragon sailboat. A large vessel is depicted with three billowing sails, each inscribed with Chinese characters conveying an auspicious phrase. The hull of the ship takes the form of a sinuous dragon, its scaled body curving along the base, with the head emerging on the left and the tail on the right, surrounded by stylised crashing waves and cloud scrolls rendered in fine detail. A multi-tiered Chinese palatial building occupies the central hull, its layered roof and colonnaded facade intricately struck. A decorative cartouche along the lower hull features two confronting dragons in shallow relief. The entire design is executed in deep antiqued relief, emphasising the three-dimensional sculptural quality of the piece. |
