The papal coat of arms appears to the left of the figure in the mid-field. Flanking the central portrait, two elaborate arched borders composed of foliage, fruit, and angelic putti frame the composition on either side. The legend ST. JOHN XXIII CANONIZATION is inscribed above the bust, with the canonization date 27.04.2014 along the right border, and the silver specification 1 KG AG.999 along the left border.

Aanvullende informatie

John XXIII was canonized on April 27, 2014, alongside John Paul II — the first time in modern Catholic history two popes were elevated simultaneously. Burkina Faso, a majority-Muslim country with a significant Catholic minority, has issued papal commemoratives through licensed distributors rather than from any ecclesiastical or state devotional motive; these are commercial issues targeting the collector market, not circulating coinage.

The kilogram format at this diameter places it squarely in the trophy-coin category produced throughout the 2010s by several West African franc-zone issuers working with European minting intermediaries.
