The Comoros 10,000 franc note is the highest denomination the Banque Centrale has ever issued, introduced to cope with the franc comorien's persistent weakness against the French franc, to which it was pegged at a fixed rate of 75 to 1 under a monetary cooperation agreement with France. That arrangement, formalized in 1979, meant the Banque de France effectively backstopped the currency — and, in practice, also printed it. Guérault's credit appearing in the design is consistent with several Banque de France–produced issues for Francophone territories during this period.
The watermark remains the sole mechanical security feature, modest for a top-denomination note by late 1990s standards.
