The Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale — the regional central bank serving the six CEMAC states — issued notes through a shared framework, with country-specific overprints or signature combinations distinguishing circulation by territory. Chad's allocation during this period coincided with prolonged civil conflict and the tail end of Libyan occupation of the Aouzou Strip, meaning large-denomination notes like this one moved through an economy severely disrupted by war and French military intervention under Opération Épervier, launched in 1986.

Two signature pairings are recorded for P#12, reflecting changes in BEAC leadership across the issue window. Banque de France printing throughout.
