The Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale — the BEAC — replaced the earlier BCEAEC structure in 1972, and the post-1972 Cameroonian notes carried the "République Unie du Cameroun" designation only until 1984, when the country formally dropped "Unie" from its name following the end of the federal arrangement. This note's title text pins it squarely within that twelve-year window.
At the 10,000-franc level, this was the highest denomination in regular BEAC circulation for the CFA franc zone during this period — not an everyday transactional note but a significant instrument for commercial and interbank settlement across the six member states sharing the currency.
