Obverse description At left, a bust portrait of a young African woman wearing a colourful head wrap is rendered in fine intaglio. A large watermark void occupies the centre, to the right of which a vignette shows a mass parade of marchers carrying a banner inscribed with a commemorative text, set against an open-air grandstand flying red flags. An African figurine statuette appears at the far right. The design is framed by an intricate guilloche underprint in green and yellow tones, with the denomination numeral '10000' printed in red at both upper corners.

Reverse description At the left margin stands a tall African wooden figurine statue rendered in rich brown intaglio, while at the right a large rounded tribal mask with crescent-shaped headdress is similarly engraved. The central vignette presents a pastoral agricultural scene of a tractor ploughing a field, with trees and open landscape in the background. The entire composition rests on a crosshatch guilloche underprint in green, blue, and ochre, with the denomination '10000' in red at both upper corners.

The Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale — the BEAC — was restructured in 1972 following a renegotiation of the CFA franc zone agreements between France and the six member states, with the Congo among them. This 10 000 franc note belongs to the early years of that new institutional arrangement, during which the Congo was formally a Marxist-Leninist single-party state under the Parti Congolais du Travail. That political posture sat uneasily alongside continued use of a currency printed in Paris and governed by a Franco-African central bank.

Three signature combinations are documented across the series, reflecting turnover in the directorate between 1974 and 1981.
