Hungary qualified for UEFA Euro 2020 — delayed to 2021 by the pandemic — and was placed in what the press immediately dubbed the "Group of Death," alongside France, Germany, and Portugal. Despite being heavy underdogs, the Hungarian side held France to a 1–1 draw in Budapest. The Magyar Nemzeti Bank issued this coin in anticipation of that tournament, one of several European central banks to produce commemorative silver for the occasion.
