Semmelweis University in Budapest — named for Ignaz Semmelweis, the physician who identified childbed fever transmission in the 1840s and was subsequently committed to an asylum partly for his trouble — marked its 250th anniversary in 2019, having been founded in 1769 as a faculty of medicine within Nagyszombat University. The institution relocated to Buda in 1777 under Habsburg directive. This commemorative was issued in a limited run by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank to coincide with the anniversary year.
