Additional information

Masie Nguema Biyogo was the birth name of Francisco Macías Nguema, whose regime by 1978 had already killed or exiled roughly a third of the country's population. The 10,000 ekuele denomination — astronomical for a country whose economy had effectively collapsed — was never intended for circulation. Essai pieces from this period were likely struck in Europe, as Equatorial Guinea had no domestic minting capability.
