Issued to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the Armenian Armed Forces, established in 1992 following independence from the Soviet Union. Armenia's military formation in that period was inseparable from the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, which had been escalating since 1988 and would continue until the 1994 ceasefire — lending the armed forces an immediate operational purpose from the moment of their founding.
