| Beschrijving keerzijde | A highly detailed, naturalistic depiction of an Australian koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) clinging to eucalyptus branches occupies the central field, rendered in fine relief with careful attention to the animal's distinctive thick fur, rounded ears, and large nose. Eucalyptus leaves and branches frame the composition on either side. The curved legend 'THE AUSTRALIAN KOALA 1 KILO .9995 PLATINUM' arcs around the upper portion of the rim, while the date '1992' appears prominently at the bottom within the recessed border. The engraver's initials 'JB' for John Bergdahl are visible in the lower left of the central design. A beaded border and recessed annular band separate the central motif from the outer legend. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Australia's platinum koala bullion series launched in 1987, positioning the Royal Australian Mint in direct competition with the Canadian Maple Leaf and American Eagle for the international bullion market. The 1000g denomination was the largest in the series and among the heaviest platinum coins struck by any sovereign mint during the period — platinum at that scale presented genuine technical challenges, as the metal's extreme density and high melting point made uniform planchet preparation considerably more difficult than gold or silver equivalents.
The third portrait of Elizabeth II, by Raphael Maklouf, was phased out after 1998 across most Commonwealth mints. On the Australian koala series, it marks a distinct transitional window.
