Sudan's mid-1990s high-denomination notes reflect the hyperinflationary spiral that followed the government's aggressive monetary expansion after the 1989 Bashir coup and the IMF's suspension of Sudan's borrowing rights in 1993. The 10,000 Dinar denomination — unthinkable in earlier Sudanese issues — was a direct consequence of inflation that had rendered smaller notes nearly worthless for any significant transaction.
Printed domestically at the Sudan Currency Printing Press rather than contracted abroad, as earlier Sudanese series typically were. The single watermark security feature placed this note well below international standards of the period, a practical reflection of the press's limited capability rather than any deliberate policy choice.
