| Reverse description | A common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) is depicted perched on a branch in the central field, rendered in fine detail with its characteristic large head and long pointed bill directed forward. The bird holds a small fish in its beak, and reed plants are visible in the background, evoking its riparian habitat. The legend PRESERVE PLANET EARTH arcs along the upper periphery in Latin characters. The denomination D10000 is inscribed in the lower exergue. |

Bosnia struck this coin in 1994 while Sarajevo was still under siege — the longest siege of a capital city in modern warfare. The National Bank had been established only the previous year amid active conflict, and these gold issues were almost certainly produced under contract at a foreign mint rather than domestically. They functioned primarily as hard-currency instruments for international sale rather than anything approaching domestic circulation.
KM#31 is among the earliest gold issues attributed to the independent Bosnian state.
