| Reverse description | Printed in grey-violet on white paper, the reverse carries a large central vignette of a spread Hanoverian eagle with detailed plumage rendered in letterpress. A central text panel states the redemption conditions and date, reading 'zahlen wir gegen Einlieferung dieses Gutscheines; er behält seine Gültigkeit bis zum Ablauf von 2 Wochen nach Aufruf, Hannover, den 15. August 1923.' Four groups of manuscript signatures appear around the eagle, attributed respectively to the Landesbank der Provinz Hannover, Girozentrale Hannover, Vereinigung Niedersächsischer Handelskammern / Handelskammer zu Hannover, Landwirtschaftskammer für die Provinz Hannover, and Die Handwerkskammern der Provinz Hannover. The same twelve town names border all four margins as on the obverse. |

The three issuing bodies here — the chambers of commerce, agriculture, and crafts — pooled their authority to issue this note during the hyperinflation peak of 1923, a period when the Reichsbank had so thoroughly lost control of the money supply that municipal and regional institutions across Germany were printing their own emergency currency (Notgeld) simply to keep local wages payable. A 10-million-mark denomination that would have seemed obscene in 1920 was routine by mid-1923 and nearly worthless by November.
J. C. König & Ebhardt, a long-established Hannover printing and bookbinding firm, handled production locally — practical, given transport delays and the absurdity of shipping currency stock while denominations were being revised weekly.
