By the time this note entered circulation in mid-2008, Zimbabwe's month-on-month inflation had already exceeded 2.2 million percent. The Reserve Bank's decision to print domestically through Fidelity Printers — rather than abroad, as had been common for earlier Zimbabwean issues — was partly driven by the near-total collapse of foreign currency reserves needed to pay overseas printers.

Ten million dollars bought a loaf of bread, briefly, before that too became insufficient. The note was demonetized and superseded within months by the third dollar redenomination.
