Opmerkingen

The adópengő was an indexed unit introduced in January 1946 specifically to give tax payments and postal transactions a stable reference while the regular pengő disintegrated around it. By the time this second-edition 10,000,000 adópengő note entered circulation in mid-1946, the conversion rate between the adópengő and the ordinary pengő was being adjusted daily — and then more frequently than that. On some days the ratio doubled before noon.

The Magyar Postatakarékpénztár issued these through post office counters rather than through commercial banking channels, which gave the series a distinct distribution profile from National Bank issues of the same period. Hungary's hyperinflation of 1945–46 remains the most severe ever documented; the adópengő system was a partial triage measure, not a cure.

The forint replaced both currencies on 1 August 1946.
